Why are there coding tutorials for girls?

On TikTok, I posted a video in which I talked about the relationship between knitting and coding. Later on, I began receiving video recommendations related to coding - for girls - on my For You page.

I began seeing videos which stereotype women as needing special help understanding computer science. Women are unable to understand that complicated boy stuff...right?

That is not true. Ada Lovelace is the author of the first published algorithm. Grace Hopper is the creator of the first compiler. Coding does not need to be simplified for women.

Learning about the history of women in computing can make it easier to understand that women are capable of innovation in computer science.

Two books that describe the history of women in computing are Programmed Visions: Software and Memory and Broad Band: The Untold Story of the Women Who Made the Internet.
